W2W Academy

Welcome to the W2W Academy – where we train operators to become the safety leaders of offshore operations. Our comprehensive training programs blend theory and simulations with supervised, offshore practice in order to equip our operators with the broad skills required to uphold Ampelmann’s rigorous standards of safety. Training modules

The W2W Academy offers three different modules. Ranging from operational basics to advanced technical training courses, each of our modules is tailored to either our hexapod based systems (A- and E-type), or our non-hexapod based gangways, the W-types and L-types. From a basic understanding of system components and operational procedures to advanced hydraulics and electronics courses, all our operators are trained to the highest industry standards.

Basic module and crane certification
The operator is trained to independently and safely operate the Ampelmann system.
Preventative maintenance
Training that is centered on carrying out weekly and monthly maintenance
Technical module
An advanced course focused on offshore troubleshooting and solving technical malfunctions

Course structure

Through theory classes, practical training, offshore assessments and supervised work in real-life environments, we ensure that our operators are trained to the highest industry standards.

Step 1

We begin with a basic course in our onshore classrooms at our production halls, the OZB, in Rotterdam. Deliberately designed for newcomers to the industry, we focus on theory and general knowledge about Walk to Work systems and offshore operations. Contingent on the clients preferences, this course can also be taken elsewhere.

Step 2

We move to a mix of theory and practice, providing hands-on training in one of our gangway simulators, onshore testing facilities or, at the clients request, on a working vessel. Here, we prepare our trainees for all eventualities and take the time to focus on how to respond to a wide variety of emergencies, contingencies and other scenarios.

Step 3

On-the-job training under supervision and guidance prepares the operator to work fully independently offshore. The trainee will be able to put his teachings into practice, gaining valuable offshore experience that is required for the final assessment from a certified assessor.

Safety leaders

In our aim to make offshore access as easy as crossing the street, our operators are trained to do more than just facilitate the transfer of passengers and cargo. We value broad skillsets over dealing with specific standardised situations. Whether certified for operational basics, maintenance or technical troubleshooting, the W2W academy trains their operators specifically to deal with a large variety of contingencies and scenarios. From active to reactive safety awareness training, we focus as much on technical skills as we do on crisis management, communication and mediation.

E-learning through our online academy

Through our digital learning environment, it is possible to store obtained certificates and keep track of expirations and reassessments. Our catalogue of online resources includes learning tools, study guides and reference material. The online academy makes learning accessible whenever you need it and wherever you are.
