Ampelmann celebrates its 2.5 millionth safe personnel transfer for Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP)

Ampelmann, the Dutch offshore access provider, celebrates its 2.5 millionth safe personnel transfer for Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP). The company's motion compensated systems have provided safe and efficient offshore access in Brunei since 2013 and are increasingly used throughout the wider region. The company has completed more than eight million safe people transfers globally, and this accomplishment is a clear indication of the growing appeal of Walk to Work (W2W) in the offshore access world in Asia Pacific.

According to Ampelmann’s CEO, Jan van der Tempel: “This is a momentous achievement for Ampelmann and we are excited to be able to celebrate this together with BSP, one of our oldest clients. Through our shared commitment to safety and efficiency of offshore operations, BSP has been instrumental in extending our global foothold beyond the seas of Europe.”

Ampelmann has been designing and building active motion compensated systems for nearly 15 years now. Its flagship system, the A-type, as well as the L-type, a gangway that was specifically designed to provide continuous crew change in relatively calm maritime conditions such as those in Asia Pacific, see frequent use in Brunei and the region. By providing stable access points between vessels and offshore installations, W2W increases the safety and efficiency of offshore operations.

As its first base of operations in Asia Pacific, the company has become firmly entrenched in the local Bruneian economy, with many of its operators and engineers originating from the country. Alongside its office in Brunei, one half of the company’s Operations Control Centre (OCC) is based there and provides 24/7 operational support to Ampelmann’s customers in half of the world.

Alongside its continued involvement in Brunei, the company is looking into ways to expand its share of the Asia Pacific market and solidify its position elsewhere. According to Vincent Chua, Ampelmann’s Area Manager Business Development for Asia Pacific, “Reaching this milestone achievement is a tribute to the safety and efficiency our systems can bring to the offshore energy market. Our gangways are increasingly used throughout the region and in the last 12 months alone, we have gained considerable traction in the O&G and wind markets of Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan and Australia, and we continue to look into the possibility of expanding our reach even further.”
